Day 5: June 17 - Porto

Hola campers.  Buenos dias.  Jeff, Portuguese is not Spanish. Why are you speaking broken Spanish?  No bueno Jefe.  Feeling great.  Porto a Buena.  I mean Port e lindo.  Jefe, voce e muito charmoso.  Si.

Woke up to the Kingsdale greeting about 9:00am and off to find some Porto breakfast.   These are Natas, a Portuguese pastry.  Kinda like creme de la creme de la custard.  Not 100% my mustard.  But let's go.

Quatro Natas

Good morning coffee for jet lag.  Whayyyy.

Bike tour time.  A great way to see the city.  Our tour guide is Flavio.  Like in stud.
Flavio is Muy Macho

Dave and I were really jealous of his hair.  I can't even imagine a pony tail.  Fucker.  But super nice guy.  I would highly recommend him.  He is from Porto and grew up in the house on the right.

Where's Waldo's House?

It was a 3 hour tour, a 3 hour tour.   Flavio showed us some awesome sites.  Here's The Wall.  It used to go around the entire city to protect Porto from Napoleon.  Napoleon was an asshole, but could not scale a wall.  So apparently it worked.

Just another brick...

Here's the tallest building in Porto.  We are waiting for Dave to finish scaling it.  It's a tall clock.  It seems to work.

Chime, chime, chime (12 chimes)

Only 2 more hours to go...

I learned a lot about Porto.  The Bishop ruled for awhile and had a serious pad.

Flavio told us in his driveway this is where he hung people that did not obey his orders.
Just ordered one on Amazon

Everyone was getting kind of hungry, so Flavio was super excited to take us to one of the nicest lunch destinations in Porto.  It looked amazing from the inside.

And extremely familiar from the outside...

Flav loves Golden Arches and Showers

Only 1 hour to go.   But everyone seems to be still having fun, fun, fun...

Across from the park, I spotted that statue of Woman With Sword.  She and the Bishop may have had some side action.  Bishop be careful.

"Oh Bishop.  I'm home. Time for sword swallowing"

Dave and Steph

Dave and Pete Townsend

Only one more bridge to go and we're home.

Way to go Flavio.

JeffGPT:  Porto is a charming city.  Reminds me of parts of Seville.  You can't beat seeing people eating at cafe's, street music all around, and very scenic bridges and rivers.  It's very tourism driven which is good and bad.  Many parts feel like tons of tourists.  But there's a great reason they are here.

After the tour we had a casual lunch just outside our hotel.  Dave and Steph decided to hit the beach.

While Wendy and I went to look for a smoke.

It's so weird to see so many people smoking and smoke machines.  I kinda miss smoke being blown in my face.  It sure beats the ass being blown on the plane ride here.  If I smoked, I'd go Camels.

Wendy's friends Maria and Luis live a couple hours out of Porto.  Luis is a wine maker and Maria, a teacher.  We met for happy hour and dinner and had a great time with them.  It's easy to tell how much their friendship means after all these years.  I was so happy to finally meet them.

Reunited and it feels so good..

"Wendy, your husband is fantastic.  Even better looking than you told me."
